1st DDS Conference: 'Stand Together: Our Common Future'
8 October 2016 - Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
The focus of this conference is to engage the academic community, students and society into debates about disasters. As highlighted by UNISDR (2015) a lack of awareness at local level increases risk of disasters. In addition, the United Kingdom and other countries are facing a changing environment of risks from multiple influences including climate change. Therefore, education oriented by these themes at the local community level is important to disaster risk reduction. In addition, in recent years there has been a scarcity of conferences that properly integrate both human and non-human components of disaster management together. Understanding of the interconnections between the different risk drivers is vital for reducing community exposure to disaster.
